Students Collect Change To Help Stop Youth Prevent Violence

This year’s National Youth Violence Prevention Week runs from April 3rd-7th. To support the work promoted during this week, area schools have been asking their students to bring in coins. The funds they collect are being matched by local donors and going to endowment funds to provide ongoing funding for the bullying prevention and conflict resolution programs at schools in their districts affiliated with PeaceMaker Minnesota.

Last year, two schools participated; this year, the following ten schools are asking their students to bring in change to develop permanent resources for supporting youth violence prevention efforts:

Catholic Schools:

St. Charles Borromeo

St. John the Baptist

St. Pascal Baylon

Lake Park Audubon School District:

Lake Park Audubon Elementary

Lake Park Audubon High School

North St. Paul – Maplewood – Oakdale School District:

Castle Elementary

Cowern Elementary

John Glenn Middle School

South St. Paul School District:

Kaposia Education Center

Lincoln Center Elementary

So far, we raised $1,750 in matching funds for the Catholic schools, and $750 in matching funds for the Lake Park Audubon School District. For the North St. Paul School District, we raised $625 in matching funds. Last but not least, we raised $2,000 for the South St. Paul Public Schools. According to John Laliberte, a PeaceMaker Minnesota Board Member and a retired South St. Paul Elementary School Principal, “These endowment funds will provide yearly support so that schools can consistently help their kids treat each other with kindness year after year.”

Peacemaker Minnesota is very grateful to the following businesses and people for matching what the students collected through their coin drive:
